The title says it all. - With all these incredible gadgets vying for our and our children's attention, it is all too easy to forget how much fun can be had sitting around the dining table with a simple fishing game or classic ludo. Board games are the ultimate in interactive toys: children get to interact with their family and friends, which I am sure I don't have to tell you, is really important for their development.

It has become a tradition in my family for Santa to bring us a new board game every year, and as we play the new game we are inevitably inspired to dig out an old favourite or two as well. Last year we got Dogopoly, the somewhat less capitalist version of a game I have always loved playing. It has been taking turns with Scrabble, which tells me that my girls are growing up fast!

This shopping category also offers lots of toys designed to make learning fun. They tie in with learning targets in foundation stage and keystage 1, or simply encourage kids to explore the world around them.

Who doesn't like to get their fingers sticky? We have arts and crafts activities to encourage creativity to suit all ages and tastes. From (non-sticky!) dinosaur 3D kits to soap making sets - there is something for everyone. it might also be worth mentioning our bear-making kits here, which command a shopping category all of their own.

So, feel inspired and make that dining table - or the floor, if you don't have dogs that are likely to run off with the dice - the centre of family fun together!
